Leading e-learning provider High Speed Training have launched a free breakfast club training course for schools in partnership with Natasha’s Foundation, the UK’s food allergy charity, and school catering company Chartwells.
Research shows when children start the day with full stomachs and a healthy breakfast, it boosts their attendance, behaviour and focus, and to ensure all children start the day ready to learn, the Government has introduced free breakfast clubs in primary schools.
The course, which is available to schools on the High Speed Training website and through the website for the Allergy School, the educational arm of Natasha’s Foundation, will help schools ensure all pupils can join in safely and feel the benefits, including the 1 in 13 children with food allergies.[1]
Titled ‘Conducting a food allergy safe breakfast club’, the course covers everything staff need to know to keep children with food allergies safe and fully included, with specific guidance on food allergies and other food hypersensitivities, checklists and allergen identifiers, controlling cross-contamination and reporting issues and concerns.
In partnership with Natasha's Foundation, High Speed Training also created a free Allergy & Anaphylaxis Training for Schools course, which has already certified over 180,000 education professionals in the UK.
Both courses are compliant with Benedict's Law, and the recently updated statutory guidance titled ‘Allergy Safety in Schools’.
Dr Richard Anderson, Director of Learning at High Speed Training, said: “Every child in school has the right to feel safe and included, and the new course we have created in collaboration with Natasha’s Foundation and Chartwells is designed to empower schools across the UK with the skills and knowledge they need to be able to do just that.
"Following the success of our Allergy & Anaphylaxis Training for Schools course, we are thrilled to be able to offer this additional course free of charge, to allow as many education professionals across the UK to gain this valuable knowledge and insight.”
Tanya Ednan-Laperouse OBE, founder of Natasha’s Foundation, said: “Children with food allergies need safe food options so they can enjoy breakfast clubs without fear or anxiety.
“This training will give schools the tools they need to ensure that free breakfast clubs are food allergy safe environments.”
Jan Parnell, Director of Education at Natasha’s Foundation, said: “School staff need the confidence and knowledge to deliver a free breakfast club programme, while ensuring that all children are safe, including those with food allergies.
“This new free training will help ensure that all children, including those with food allergy, are included and protected.”
The course can be accessed through the High Speed Training Website and through the Natasha’s Foundation Allergy School website.
